What To Wear For A Day Hiking Checklist

Today, I was thinking about what should be on a hiking gear checklist for novice hikers. With that in mind, I wrote the list below as a general guide to what you clothing you should look to get when gathering hiking gear for a day hiking.

Hiking Trousers or Hiking Shorts

Fitting hiking trousers are a must. I love those with air vents that open to allow better air circulation to keep your legs dry as sweat is permitted away from the skin. I also recommend the hiking pants with a detachable bottom to be doubled as easily as the shorts.

Hiking Fleece

A must for cooler temperatures. The suitable hiking fleece will keep you warm and dry under the right waterproof hiking jacket.

Base Layers

It will be helpful if you are ensure you have proper base layers. The first base layer is right next to your skin, so you want ventilation to wick away sweat comfortably. Of course, you'll need more layers the colder the climate. It is advisable to carry a few additional layers with you just in case.

Suppose you will be wading through the marsh, water, snow, etc. Gaiters are useful to help keep your feet and your boots drier.

Hiking Hat

If it gets chilly while hiking an excellent addition is a warm beanie. When worn under the hood of your waterproof jacket, it will keep your head nice and warm! Alternatively, if it's hot and the sun is falling, a baseball cap or beach-style picnic hat will protect you from any harmful rays.

Hiking Gloves

These should be waterproof, windproof and ideally leave you with some movement in your hands to hold, open, etc.

Hiking Socks

Good socks are very crucial. It will not be a waste to get good hiking socks that complement your hiking boots or boots to ensure maximum comfort and avoid blisters!

Hiking Boots and Shoes

Of prime importance when hiking. It is best to have a pair of hiking boots or shoes suitable for the climate and weather you are hiking in. It should fit well and your shoes or boots should be well broken in. Your shoes can be broken in in your home or around the block before using them for a hike. Always wear hiking socks when breaking your hiking shoes too!

Waterproof Hiking Jacket

It depends on the climate you're hiking in, but it will always rain at some point, so you need to have your waterproof hiking jacket with you just incase. There are many options to choose from, and many have detachable layers and thus can be adapted for year-round use.

Extra Hiking Clothing

Reserve clothing is a must if you move in and out of different temperatures and weather, which can happen quickly whenever you climb up the mountain. It's always safe to have a little more than less prepared.

This list is not exhaustive, but it does list some essential things to take with you on your day's outing. Being prepared as much as possible will ensure that you have hiking that is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.

You will also need something to carry your extra gear and some basic supplies, so a comfortable daily pack on your back is a must.
